Anambra assembly tasks Obiano on completion of abandoned road

Anambra state House of Assembly has urged Governor Willie Obiano to direct the state commissioner for works to complete the construction of a road connecting ten communities in Awka north LGA to its headquarters, Achalla.

The road called, Isuaniocha-Urum-Amanuke-Achalla road, was awarded to Grand Star Construction company in 2006 by former governor Peter Obi led administration but work stopped at 9 kilometers..

Moving a motion on the project, Hon. John Nwokoye, representing Awka north state constituency, observed that the dilapidated state of road obstruct free movements of goods and services especially farm products as his constituents are basically farmers.

According to Nwokoye, the road which is a deathtrap make it difficult for people from the LGA to access their local government secretariat.

“Our people are the only Local government area who travel through four local government areas before they can access their LGA secretariat. We travel through Awka, Oyi, Dunukofia and Njikoka roads before we can access our LGA secretariat.

“This is stressful and time consuming, make us to spend of other monetary and other resources. If this road is fixed, one can travel from his town to the secretariat with 30 minutes”.

The Assembly reminded the executive that section 15 (3a) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) gives the state responsibility of providing adequate facility that will encourage freed mobility of people, goods and services throughout the federation.
