Anambra: Belgium team offer free medical services to 6000 patients


The Chief Medical Officer of Enugwu-Ukwu General Hospital, Njikoka LGA of Anambra state, Dr Willie Onwuocha, said the hospital was playing host to a Belgium team on medical mission in the state where about 6, 000 patients would receive free medical treatment.


Onwuocha, who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen, revealed that cases being  treated by the medical experts were surgery, obstetrics and gynecological cases, among others. 
“On January 2019, we conducted a feasibility study in Anambra state to find out where the mission will launch the medical mission. We visited Iyi-enu hospital, Amaku hospital and Enugw-Ukwu and discovered that people in these areas needed the services more, so we chose this hospital,” he said.


He said the team comprising 16 medical experts and  staff of the hospital would continue with the programme which commenced on Monday till September 16.
Also speaking, Mr Owen Okechukwu Emeh, President of Igbo Union in Ghent, Belgium, who attracted the medical mission in the state, said he was moved to contribute to the uplift  of the lives of his people and development of the state.


Emeh said that development and provision of basic amenities to the people must not be left for the government.
He called on wealthy people in the country to give back to the society in areas that would touch lives by partnering the government.


Chief Clement Nwafor, Chairman, Committee on Belgium Team Medical Mission, said the team was offering medical services to patients from Enugwu-Ukwu, Nawfia, Abagana, Enugwu-Agidi,Nri, Nimo and surrounding communities.
