Anambra: Chidoka loses as tribunal upholds Ibezi’s election

The 2019 National Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Awka, Anambra state capital, on Wednesday upheld the election of Hon. Ifeanyi Ibezi, member representing Idemili North/Idemili South Federal Constituency.

Ibezi, who is of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) is being challenged at the tribunal by the immediate past Rep. for the constituency and candidate of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Obinna Chidoka.
Chidoka, younger brother of the former minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, had sought nullification of the election on the ground of multiple voting, none compliance to electoral law Acts, arguing that the Independent Nation  Electoral Commission (INEC) ought not to  have conducted the supplementary election after the main poll where he won.

The two judges of panel three, Justice R. Irele Ifijeh and Justice O.O. Odubanjo, who read judgment held that the petitioner was unable to establish that results he presented before the tribunal was generated during the election.
The tribunal added that INEC has the power to conduct supplementary election where the election was declared inclusive, and dismissed the petition.

Reacting, Hon. Ifeanyi Ibezi, said it was an act of God and will of the people, and asked his opponent to join hands with him to move the constituency forward.
“This is a call for more work. We won’t relent in impacting lives positively in our constituency. I have attracted employment to most of graduates and more would be employed,” he stated.
