Anambra community mourns as man butchers mother, 2 own kids

Nnewi in Nnewi North local government area of Anambra state has been thrown into mourning over alleged murder of an 85-year-old woman, Mrs. Agnes Ezimadu, and her three grandchildren.

The three deceased, it was learnt, were on Thursday macheted to death by Agnes’s son, Mr. Emeka Ezimadu, aged 47, who incidentally fathered the two slain children, Ifechukwu, 9, and Mmeso Ezimadu, 2.

The suspect, Emeka, who allegedly carried out the onslaught at night at their home in Okpuneze, Uruagu village, Nnewi, when the deceased were asleep, also used the same cutlass to inflict injuries on his other three children, namely Nonso Ezimadu, 12, Chinaemerem Ezimadu, 11, and Ngozi Ezimadu, 8.

Confirming the report, the Anambra state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Muhammed, said the suspect was equally arrested at 11.55pm on Thursday by police operatives attached to Nnewi Division.

“The suspect allegedly ran amok in a circumstances yet to be ascertained, attacked and killed two of his biological children namely Ifechukwu Ezimadu ‘m’ aged 9 years, Mmeso Ezimadu ‘f’ aged 2 years and his own mother one Agnes Ezimadu ‘f’ aged 85years of same address allegedly with a cutlass while they were sleeping.

“Suspect equally used same offensive weapon and injured his three other children namely Nonso Ezimadu ‘m’ aged 12 years, Chinaemerem Ezimadu ‘f’ aged 11 years and Ngozi Ezimadu ‘f’ aged 8 years of same address. Meanwhile, police detectives visited the Scene and rushed victims to the Akwudo hospital for medical attention where the two children and the aged mother were certified dead by a medical doctor,” he said.

He said further that the three injured children had been admitted to the hospital for treatment, while the corpses of the deceased were taken to a morgue for autopsy.
