Anambra disbands tricycle operators’ union

Anambra state government has disbanded all tricycle operators union in the state, and inaugurated a new body called Unified Tricycle Owners and Riders (UTORASS).
The UTORASS chairman, Comrade Sylvester Obiora, who disclosed this in an interview, said the unions were banned due to infighting, cultism, illegal and multiple collections of revenues and tolls.
Obiora called on keke operators to abide by the government’s directives, assuring that his leadership and government would ensure their interests and welfare were in the front-burner.


According to him, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Vehicle Inspection Operation (VIO) and Anambra State Traffic Management Agency (ATMA) were collaborating to organise a seminar for all tricycle operators in the state across three senatorial districts starting with Anambra North senatorial zone, at Onitsha next week Thursday. 


He said the seminar would expose the participants to acquire relevant knowledge on road safety, road traffic signs, rules on use of road, and others geared towards reducing road accidents.


Obiora said the state Ministry of Transport was collaborating with the body to issue security tag as a means of identification of genuine tricycle riders and owners in the state in order to have full list of members and check unwholesome activities of infiltrators and bad elements.
