Anambra: Drive branded, unmasked vehicles from June 1st, risk prosecution — Police



The Anambra State Police Command, on Thursday, said it would not hesitate from arresting and prosecuting users of campaign branded vehicles including those with tinted glass and covered plate numbers in the state from June 1, 2019.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Haruna Muhammed, the arrest became necessary because information at the disposal of the Anambra State Police Command revealed that hoodlums in the state were using “branded and or unmarked/tinted vehicles with covered plate numbers to perpetrate Crimes in the State in order to avoid being detected  by the law enforcement agencies.”


Muhammed, who said the acts were not only unlawful but also constitute serious security threats to the public, averred that if left unchecked, it could worsen the security situation in the State. 
“In view of the foregoing, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mustapha Dandaura has ordered with immediate effect the arrest and prosecution of persons using unmarked/ tinted and masked vehicles without authorization. 
“The CP further enjoined Politicians in the State to repaint their branded Campaign vehicles on or before 1st June 2019 or the Command will be left with no option than to impound such vehicles since Electioneering campaigns are over.

The CP also warns that any Security personnel found escorting their principal with an unmarked vehicle or those with covered vehicle number plates will be arrested and dealt with accordingly,” he added. In another related development, the Anambra state police command reported arrest three suspected kidnap kingpins and armed robbers through its operation puff adder.


The command in a release signed by its PPRO, SP Haruna Muhammed disclosed that “in order to further stem the tide of armed banditry and other heinous crimes in the State, operatives attached to Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) and operation Puff Adder had on the 13/5/2019 at about 2:pm arrested at Omagba phase 1,Onitsha one Chinwetalu Oranu ‘m’ aged 20 years.
“Suspect masterminded the kidnap of one Obiora Okonkwo ‘m’ at Agbara industrial layout in Ogun State on the 30/4/2019 and has confessed to the crime. Meanwhile, suspect will be handed over to Ogun State Police command where the offence was committed for further investigation and prosecution.


“On the 13/5/2019 at about 1:30pm,following intelligence report, Police operatives attached to the Command Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) and operation Puff Adder tracked down and arrested one Ajumobi Chibueze AKA Ijele ‘m’ aged 24 years and Bosa Chidi ‘m’  aged 28 years. 
“Suspects had on the 11/05/2019 robbed  one Peter Morah ‘m’ of his motorcycle and two mobile phones at gunpoint. Meanwhile, all the robbed items have been recovered from the suspects and Case is under Investigation after which suspects would be charged to Court for prosecution.“
