Anambra: Emulate Umahi’s developmental strides, indigenes in Ebonyi tell next governor

Anambra indigenes residing in Ebonyi are requesting that the next governor of the state in 2021, emulate David Umahi of Ebonyi state in order to replicate his infrastructural strides.

Ebonyi state Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development Hon. Charles Akpuenika made the disclosure in an interview in Abakaliki.

He said the indigenes are yearning for the sort of infrastructural ‘wonder’ in Ebonyi to be replicated in Anambra.

Akpuenika who is a foremost leader of the Anambra community in Ebonyi, said Umahi has turned Ebonyi around with eight-inches concrete roads, world class flyovers, functional and aesthetic streetlights and landmark achievements in education, health, sports among other sectors.

“There are over eight completed flyovers in Ebonyi at present with several others nearing completion and the governor recently intimated that additional seven flyovers would be constructed in various parts of the state.

The commissioner who is the Chairman of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) governing board in Ebonyi, said Anambra indigenes across the globe have witnessed all these and made passionate appeal.

“We seek a governor who knows that the state is supposed to be the pride of the south seat zone of the country infrastructurally and otherwise.

“We want flyovers to be erected at Awkuzu junction, Igbariam, Tarzan, Orieagu junctions and good roads that would link all areas of the state constructed for the benefit of the people.

“We want a new Government House to be constructed in the state because the old Government House currently in use is not worth the state’s status.

“Umahi has constructed a new Government House in Ebonyi with state of the art facilities which will enhance the smooth delivery of government and people- oriented policies.

“It is gratifying to note that with Umahi’s actions, people will not look down on Ebonyi and its citizens again as the governor has ‘digitally’ transformed the state into the Dubai of Nigeria,” he said.

He also enjoined the relevant authorities in Anambra to emulate Umahi in the area of conducting local government area election which entrenches democracy at the grassroots and promotes good governance.

“Under six years of Umahi’s administration, he has conducted two, hitch-free LGA elections because he realizes that he assumed power through elections.

“When the authorities do not want the grassroots to elect council chairmen and councillors, how do they expect leaders at the council level to be accountable to the people.

“Umahi always preaches accountability especially at the grassroots and has enjoined the people to hold council chairmen accountable for the funds meant for the delivery of democracy dividends to them,” he said.
