Anambra: Obiano begs residents to observe COVID-19 protocols amidst yuletide

As preparation for Christmas and New Year gear up, Anambra state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has urged residents to always keep to the COVID-19 preventive protocols of wearing of facemask, constant washing of hands and others to curtain the second wave of coronavirus.

Obiano made the call while addressing the 326 Ward Transition Committee Councillors of the 21 local government areas of the state, at a refreshment course organised by the State Ministry of Health in collaboration with Africa Center for Disease Control in order to educate them to carry-on assist in disseminating the message across communities.

The governor, represented by his Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke, expressed displeasure that some were no longer observant of the WHO acceptable COVID-19 protocols.

He, however, adviced people not to panic because according to him, although the pandemic has no approved medication it could be prevented by observing the protocols.

On his part, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala, said the second wave of COVID-19 was predicated on the fact that most people have abandoned safety precautions in the false belief that it was no longer prevalent in the society.

He, however, urged community leaders and their counterparts at market, religious groups, motorparks, and others to emphasise on the need for the public to adhere strictly to COVID-19 protocols.
