Anambra: Octogenarian jumps from 4-storey building, dies

An Octogenarian, Mrs Victoria Ilione, has allegedly jumped off a 3rd floor of a four storey building and died instantly at Awada, a suburb of Onitsha, Anambra state.

Sources alleged that the deceased, who was residing with her daughter had a sign of mental challenges before the unfortunate incident.

Confirming the death, the Anambra State Police Commissioner, John Abang through the command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Haruna Muhammed, revealed that “the  octogenarian victim reported to be having some mental challenges had her movement restricted and was at home with her care giver, one Judith Amumuche ‘f’ age 32yrs at the time of the alledged incident.

“At about 5:20pm of today March 17, there was a distress call at Awada Police Station that one Ilione Victoria ‘f’ aged about 85yrs allegedly jumped to her death from the balcony of an apartment on the 3rd floor in a four storey building where she stayed with her daughter at No 18 Ilodibe Street, Awada.

“However, before the arrival of the police to the scene, one Ikediaso Benedicta ‘f’ of 3-3 Housing Estate, Onitsha, who is said to be victim’s daughter reportedly took the copse away to an unknown destination but blood stains were observed at the scene. The care giver and other witnesses at the scene are helping police investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the CP stated.

He urged the public especially those taking care of the aged to be extra careful when handling such persons in order to avert similar ugly incidents please.
