Anambra: Okunna is new NIPR Chairperson



The first female Professor of Mass Communication in Nigeria, Professor Mrs. Stella Chinyere Okunna, has been appointed as a caretaker Chairperson of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Anambra State council. 


Okunna, a fellow of the institute was appointed on Thursday by the National President and Chairman of NIPR, Malam Muktar Sirajo at the 2019 AGM/election of the chapter. Others to serve with her include Fidelis Umeh, Jacinta Nwafor, Felix Agbu and Henry Okpara.


Sirajo, who subsequently postponed the chapter’s election billed to hold same day to six months, said the appointment became necessary to settle some infractions, bickering,  disunity and disagreement he observed to be affecting the chapter, as well as to bring members together for greater NIPR.


He charged the interim executive and members of the institute to work with peace and harmony to achieve greater result.
A member of the Council, Rev. Prof. Boniface Obiefune, thanked every member for the supporting the appointment, assuring that the six months transition will produce positive result.


In her acceptance speech, Professor Okuna, while stating the appointment has emotionally destabilised her, implored for support of all to get the chapter working within the six months.
