Anambra partners NGO, plans to recycle 5 million wastes, plastics

The Managing Director, Anambra State Waste Management Agency (ASWAMA), Mr Amaechi  Akorah, said they have secured partnership with a nongovernmental organisation (NGO) to get rid of five million plastics off the state.
Akorah, who gave the name of the NGO as World Guinness Record and Humanity Nigeria, explained that the project was in line with ‘Five Million Plastic Challenge,’ a nationwide event held on September 26, adding that the state had kicked off the process through biweekly outreach sensitisation.

According to him, the target areas where waste would be taken off include streets, gutters and waterways across all nooks and crannies with a view to make Anambra state safe and healthy. “We have been able to get the people to understand the principle of proper refuse disposal and maintaining a healthy environment through the sanitisation outreach. Our people now participate actively in monthly sanitation exercises.

“Also, in keeping to five million plastic challenges projects, our team Anambra had been to Awka, Ekwulobia, Oko and others, and it will continue until the grand finale. I am appealing to all to join us in making Anambra state clean and healthy by ensuring that their environment is clean.

We are still appealing for people to make use of our refuse designated joints and avoid disposing waste indiscriminately. We won’t relent in prosecuting offenders,” he added.
