Anambra: Police arrest ‘Baby Awka’, others over alleged cult sponsorship


Anambra State police, Wednesday, said they have arrested the Chariman of Eke Awka market, Ozor Emeka Agumadu (alias Baby Awka) for allegedly sponsoring cult groups in Awka, the state capital. 
Agumdu, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), was arrested along side three other persons,  Prince Collins Ozojiofor, Mr Okechukwu Nwaneke and Mr Nwankwo Chukwuma.


A release signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Muhammed, alleged the arrest was carried out by Operation Puff Adder following recent cult related killings in Anambra state.


“It would be recalled that on the 10th and 11th August, 2019, there was a clash between two rival cult groups, the Black axe and Vikings confraternities at Eke Awka  and Dike park, all in Awka South LGA of Anambra State where one Mr Chinedu surname yet unknown alias Nambo and Mr Uche Anarah were brutally murdered.


“Following the incidents and while acting on credible intelligence, the Command puff-adder operatives led by the Commissioner of Police CP John B.Abang ,fdc had on the 13th August, 2019 at about 4:20pm launched a manhunt of the hoodlums at Dike park and Umukwa village areas of Awka,arrested four suspected Sponsors/members of Black axe and Vikings confraternities as follows, 
“Prince Collins Ozojiofor, Mr Okechukwu Nwaneke, Mr Nwankwo Chukwuma, and Ozor Emeka Agwumadu alias (Baby Awka). Meanwhile,efforts are being intensified to track down and arrest other fleeing gang members  involved in the killings after which they would be charged to court prosecution,” he said.
