Anambra: Police confirm death of 3 officers, arrest one suspect, reinforce Soludo’s security

 The Anambra state police command, Thursday, confirmed death of three officers during an attack on the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Prof. Charles Soludo.
Soludo, who was attacked Wednesady night during an interactive session with some youth at a civic centre in his home town, Isuofia, Aguata local government area, is a gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) on Anambra state November 6 poll.


The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Monday Bala Kuryas, confirmed the attack in a statement signed on his behalf by the command’s PPRO, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), adding that one person has been arrested in connection with the act while investigation continues.
“The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Monday Bala Kuryas fsi, in the evening hours of, 31st March, 2021, led a crack team of Police Operatives for on-the-spot assessment to the venue of a stakeholders/ community meeting at Isuofia Civic Centre in Aguata LGA, which came under attack same date at about 1730hrs, by a yet to be identified armed hoodlums.


“The assailants were resisted by security Operatives present at the event and in the ensuing gun duel, three (3) Police Operatives sustained severe gunshots injuries and were later confirmed dead in the hospital, while their corpses have been deposited in the mortuary. Following the incidence, the attackers abducted one Engr. Emeka Ezenwanne, Commissioner of Public and Utilities. Meanwhile, one person has been arrested in connection with the act.


“The Police Operatives led by the Command CP, visited the scene and also visited the Former CBN Governor to reinforce the security in his house and the Community entirely. In his response he thanked the Commissioner and his team for the quick response. 


“To this end, the CP while condemning the act, commiserate with the family and friends of the Officers who paid the supreme Price, has ordered the immediate launch of a tacit investigation to unravel the mystery behind the incidence as well as bring perpetrators of the barbaric act to book. He also call on the good people of Anambra residents to join hands in the fight against Crime and Criminality,” he maintained.
