Anambra: Police parade ‘notorious murderer’, others

Anambra State Police Command, on Monday, paraded a suspected murderer on its watch list, Mr Ikechukwu Udensi (alias KENDA) and seven others accused of being involved in robbery activities.

Udensi was arrested for allegedly taking part in the murder of one Mr Ndubuisi Nwokolo, aged 38, killed at Onitsha on June 29, 2018.

The suspect was then declared wanted by the police even as Anambra State government placed N1m ransom to be paid to anyone who could provide information that could lead to Udensi’s arrest.

According to Anambra state police commissioner, CP Mustapha Dandaura, “In broad daylight, a trader, one Ndubuisi Nwokolo male, aged 38 years of No 21 Otamoye Street, Odoakpu in Onitsha was murdered in cold blood allegedly by one IKENDA and his accomplices using offensive weapons such as machetes and cutlasses on the victim.

“Following the incident, the Command launched aggressive manhunt for the fleeing perpetrators and declared the ring leader one Ikechukwu Udensi alias IKENDA male aged 27 years of Azia town in Ihiala LGA of Anambra State wanted.

“Consequently, on the 31/3/2019 at about 12:50pm, following painstaking intelligence and strategic planning, police operatives attached to the Command Operation Udoka and Special Anti robbery Squad SARS raided a Criminal hideout at Menax near down flyover in Onitsha and arrested the notorious Suspect Ikechukwu Udensi AKA IKENDA who was earlier declared wanted in connection with the alleged murder.”

Dandaura, while stating that Udensi would be assisting the Police with useful information that could help in arresting his accomplices in order to bring them to Justice, said: “on the 15/2/2019 at about 02:am, hoodlums Suspected to be IPOB members attacked Ajalli police Division, burnt down the station, three police patrol vehicles and other exhibits.

“Suspects, equally carted away three AK 47 rifles  from the Division armoury and injured the DCO who was on visiting round. Following the incident, the Command special Anti-robbery Squad embarked on aggressive manhunt of perpetrators  and arrested five of the suspects.”

He listed the arrested suspects in connection with burnt of Ajalli division to include Mr Abuchi Nwogwu, aged 21; Mr Okwudili Nwanne, aged 42; Mr Maduabuchi Obia, aged 22; Mr Chukwuedozie Orah, aged 30; and Mr Ekechi Chukwuemeka, aged 30 years; all hail from Ndikelionwu in Orumba North LGA of Anambra State .

The Police CP said upon interrogation, the suspects took operatives to their criminal hideout and one of the  AK 47 rifle with breech number KO 358792 carted away was recovered and case were currently under investigation after which suspects would be charged to Court for prosecution.

Other suspects paraded by the police is one Chimaobi Amauwa, aged 25, who was arrested on the 28 March, 2019 at about 10:05pm by the Police operatives attached to the Command Special Anti Robbery Squad SARS at Upper Iweka area Onitsha.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that suspect belonged to a one chance robbery syndicate terrorizing Onitsha and environs using a commercial bus in order to deceive their victims. Exhibits recovered from the suspect include one recovered one locally made pistol and the operational vehicle L300 bus with REG. No. DRK 85 XA. Case is under investigation and effort is ongoing to apprehend his accomplices after which they would be charged to Court for prosecution,” he said.

Reacting, Mr Ikechukwu Udensi, who was accused of murder, said he was a toll agent (collector of Internally generated revenue in parks) of the state government and was neither away of those who committed the offence nor ever send them.
