Anambra poll: Community leader urges women to enrol for CVR

A community leader, Mrs. Edith Nwokedi, has urged women residents in Anambra state to participate in the exercise in order to be eligible to vote during the November 6 governorship election.

Nwokedi, the woman coordinator, Women Advancement for Economic and Leadership Empowerment (WAELE), who made the call in an interview with Blueprint in Awka, noted that voter cards would enable women to actively join in electing a new helmsman for the state.

She stressed the need for women participation in governance, and appealed to those still considering taking part to join the train to give women a political voice.

“Women are restorers of broken walls. Get ready to join active party politics if you have passion for it so that you can join in electing your leader. I am appealing to my fellow women to shun vote buying or electoral inducement, and secure the future of our children.

“In politics women capabilities are well-tapped and developed to grow women in all its activities as man by nature are political, so why hide from growing your community,” she said.

Also speaking, Mrs Ngozi Mbachi, a woman community leader from Aboatulu kindred of Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka council area of the state, called on women in the state, especially those who recently clocked 18 years, not to allow the opportunity to elude them.
