Anambra: State govt hunts ghost workers in LGAs

Anambra state government said it has embarked on hunt of ‘ghost’ workers in the state across 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
The Chairman, Anambra state Local Government Service Commission (ASLGC), Dr Peter Egenti, who disclosed this during the official monitoring tour of the commission at Orumba South LGA headquarters, explained that the move was inline with Governor Willie Obiano’s resolve to identify and eliminate ghost workers in the LG system.

“We want to ascertain who the ghost workers are and fish them out. We want to ensure strict monitoring and inspection of staff attendance and attitude to work for improved productivity. We don’t tolerate absenteeism, truancy and nonchalant to work. Any staff found wanting in attendance and discharge of his official duty will be treated accordingly, “ Egenti maintained.

He commended the governor for introducing Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) which according to him, would help to improve the workers health and longevity as well as enhance their productivity.
Earlier, the Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South LGA, Hon. Raymond Onyegu, promised to assist the commission on the war to eliminate ghost workers in the system for optimal performance of the staff, while the Head of LG Administration, Mr Linus Iwuchukwu saw the move and other aspect of local government reforms as apt.
