ANEEJ attributes IFF to spate of poverty

The African Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) has raised the alarm that Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs) which is part of fundamental development problem in Nigeria has increased poverty menace in the country.

ANEEJ Executive Director, Rev. David Ugolor lamented that there was no firm agreement on conceptual and definitional issues related
to issues of IFFs till date.

Rev Ugolor stated this Tuesday in Abuja at the launch of a social protection program in Nigeria, said the struggle to lift more citizens out of extreme poverty is an indictment on successive
Nigerian governments which have mismanaged the country’s vast oil resources through incompetence and corruption.

The director warned that the development already threatens the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS) which targets ending extreme poverty by 2030.

He disclosed that ANEEJ has begun implementation of the social protection program in Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Ekiti and Anambra states to complement government efforts in surmounting poverty in the country.

He explained that the goal of the project is to advocate for reforms in support of the implementation of Social Investment Programmes in Nigeria.
