Anita: IG orders arrest of killer–cops

Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahin Idris, has ordered the arrest and investigation of policemen allegedly involved in the incident that led to the death of one Miss Anita Akapson.

Ms Akpason was reportedly killed by policemen responding to a distress call by an armed robbery victim at Katampe Extension, Abuja, on the night of October 13, 2018.

Police sources said the victim of the robbery had sent a distress call to the police and reportedly gave a description of the operational vehicle which was similar to the one the deceased was driving at the time.

The police boss in a press statement by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), acting DCP Jimoh Moshood, yesterday in Abuja, directed the Commissioner of Police, in charge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Bala Ciroma, to “detain and personally carry out a thorough investigation of policemen involved in the incident that resulted in the death of Miss Akapson and bring the perpetrators to justice.” The spokesperson said that CP Ciroma has got in touch with the family as directed by the IGP and assured that the public will be informed of the outcome of investigations.

He said the IGP also commiserated with the family of the deceased and assured them that justice will be done in the matter
