…Another for car ‘snatching’ in Ogun

The Police in Ogun state have arraigned one Fadayini Ayodeji before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court, Isabo, for allegedly robbing one Mrs Rukayat Sowole of her car, using a toy gun and a knife.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Eigbejiale, told the court that the accused, who is facing a two-count charge of robbery and unlawful possession of dangerous weapons, committed the offences on September 6, 2017, at about 9 pm in Omida Area of Abeokuta.
Eigbejiale said that the accused, with a toy gun and a knife, robbed the complainant of her Nissan Primera car, with registration No. LND 749CZ, valued at N1.3 million.
He said the accused also stole the complainant’s handbag which contained N75,000, a chequebook and her vehicle particulars, adding that Ayodeji was arrested by the Police in Omida Area immediately after the robbery.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Section 1 (2) (a) of the Robbery and Fire Arms Law of the Federation, 2004, and Section 428 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
Ayodeji, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adeola Adelaja, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody pending legal advice from the state’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
She adjourned the case till June 2, for the mention.
