Another coach quits after 2022 #World Cup exit

After being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the World Cup by Argentina, Louis van Gaal (71) said that he is no longer the coach of the Netherlands, and that he is not interested in who will be the world champion in Qatar.

The Dutch managed to make the game dramatic, come back from an almost hopeless situation and win a penalty shootout where luck was on the side of the Gauchos.

For the oldest coach at the World Cup, this was his third term in charge of the national team, and even last year he announced his intention to retire after the tournament.

Van Gaal led the Netherlands for exactly 20 games and did not suffer a single defeat until this one in the penalty shootout.

“First and foremost, I’m not going to continue. This was my last match in my third term on the bench. We didn’t lose a single match, I don’t know how many we won, but you can google ‘Louis van Gaal, Dutch team’ and see for yourself goal difference” Van Gaal said.

The legendary expert won 14 games and had six draws, and the Netherlands scored 51 goals and conceded 17 this term.

“I look at everything in a positive way. Along with England, we were the only unbeaten team, and this time we weren’t defeated either. It was only penalties.

What I leave behind is a great group of guys, this was a very cohesive team, with a lot of talent. That “There’s a reason we haven’t been defeated. We’ve played against the best teams, even though they were eliminated before us in the competition” Van Gaal added. As it was announced before the World Cup, his successor will be former Barcelona coach and another Dutch legend, Ronald Koeman.
