Another Village head accuses Osun Monarch of assault

A village head in Tooto, Ola-Oluwa Local Government Area of Osun State, Ganiyu Akanfe, has alleged that Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba AbdurRasheed Akanbi, assaulted him and attempted to kill him.
He said he escaped death by whiskers when the suspected thugs led by Oluwo’s chief, Sooko, invaded his house and tried to kill him on the order of Oluwo.
He recalled that Oba Akanbi has been having issues with monarchs and Chiefs since he ascended the throne in the last two years.
Noting that the same manner Oba Akanbi attacked Oluwo-Oke last year, harassed Ooni of Ife, Akanfe said Oluwo has launched several verbal attack on a prominent Chief, Abiola Ogundokun and others in the state.
According to him, “I was installed as Baale (village head) of Tooto by Onigege of Igege on Tuesday February 20, 2018 around 8.am. We were in celebration mood when we hear that Oluwo has installed another person, Lukman Agbo around 3.pm.
“The thugs came to my house around 7pm, dragged me outside and poured palm oil on my wife garment. I reported to the Area Commander who invited them to come on Wednesday.
“They didn’t come to the Area Command till I left on Wednesday. It was not long that I entered my house that they came again. I managed to escape through the bush to another town in some kilometers called Telemu.
“I was about coming out of the bush when I received a phone call by police. The police, who have noticed them pursuing me, however, rescued me.
Speaking, Onigege of Igege, Oba Kazeem Adio, Orioye 11, said the Tooto community has been under Igege for a long period and only Onigege has the right to install village head in Tooto community.
He expressed surprise that Oluwo went to install another Village head the same day he exercised his right after following due process.
According to Onigege, “I wrote to the local government and they gave me order before I installed the Baale. Among the monarchs that attended the event are, Olu of Ile-Ogbo, Olu of Soungbe, Agbowu of Ogbaagba, Olowu of Iremowu, Oloja of Agberire, Onitara of Esu, Alayegun of Ayegunle, Oluwoye of Iwoye, Onisara of Isara-Edoro.
When contacted, the Area Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Patrick Odoemelem, said a case of assault was reported to him and he has invited all the parties to report to his office on Monday for investigation.
He said the police would not interfere in the Chieftaincy tussle, vowing that whoever caught culpable in the criminal matter would face the law irrespective of the personality.
In his reaction, the Chief Press Secretary to Oluwo, Alli Ibrahim, said the palace was not aware of any attack and he could not speak for the alleged Chief, Sooko.
