Anti-graft Day: ICPC vows to deal with corrupt persons

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) has said it would not rest on its oars in intensifying efforts to detect and investigate acts of corruption, embezzlement and abuse of office with a view to bringing offenders to book.

The Commission’s commissioner in Kogi state, Chile Ogwuegbu, stated this in Lokoja during an anti-corruption debate organised for secondary schools to commemorate this year’s International Anti-corruption Day organised by ICPC in collaboration with Participation Initiative for Behavioural Change in Development (PIBCID) and funded by the Kogi state Ministry of Information and Communication.

He described this year’s edition of the Day as “unique,” noting that the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic globally had opened up challenges on governance institutions.

According to him, this year’s theme, “Recover with integrity” was apt, but warned that the Commission “will not hesitate to visit with the full weight of the law on any persons that indulge in corrupt practices as the days of impunity are over.”

In a goodwill message, the executive director, PIBCID, Halima Sadiq, noted that corruption was a pandemic that had already ravaged all sectors of the nation’s system.
