Anti-graft group commends CCB on Enugu housing commissioner’s investigation

A non governmental organization dedicated to fighting corruption among public office holders, Herald for Anti Corruption and Public Morality, has commended the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) for investigating series of petitions against the  Commissioner of Housing Development, Enugu state,  Hon Vitus Okechi, relating to breach of code of conduct regulations.

The Convener of the group, John Bassey, in a press statement on Monday, said: “The speedy approach in the handling of the cases against Hon Vitus is worthy of note.”
He expressed bewilderment as to how a single individual would intentionally encroach into the land belonging to the old site of University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital Enugu and that of local community, with impunity.

“We urge the CCB to accelerate the process for the commencement of a speedy trial since the petitioners have given incontrovertible evidence against the commissioner.
“We deeply believe that the current Chairman of the CCB and his team of dedicated staff are going to ensure that justice prevails, as far as this case on Hon Okechi is concerned. So far, the CCB as an institution has acted in a very professional manner in the handling of the case involving Hon Okechi, ” Bassey stated.
Meanwhile, the group has urged the Governor of Enugu state, Ifeanyi Igwuanyi, to choose his political appointees carefully to avoid those who may drag his name in the mud.

In a related development, the group also expressed optimism that the CCB would do justice to the investigating another case of breach of the provisions of the CCB and Tribunal Act by Public Officers in respect of the Chairman, Esit Eket Local Government Council of Akwa Ibom state, Hon Robson Iniobong Nnamso.

He said in a letter dated June 11, 2020, Reference No: CCB/AK/S/VOL. 2/308 written by office of the State Director, CCB, Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, Amba Ikpeme, the council boss was indicted for the submission of his assets declaration form 18 months after  collection  of the form on June 6, 2019, for reasons not stated, amongst others.
