Anti-graft war: Don urges accountants to simplify figures

The deputy vice chancellor (academic), Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Prof.
Musa Inuwa Fodio has charged accounting experts to present figures in such a way as to give the general public a sense of belonging in the polity as the Buhari-led administration focuses on war against corruption.
Prof. Fodio made the appeal during his inaugural lecture series of the university.
Fodio a professor of Accounting and Finance, said accountability and simplifying accounting information is an obligation of accountants to the general public.
“A common man on the street should SSANIP, NASU shut Ibarapa Polytechnic Ibarapa poly students shut out of their school know the position of budget, expenditure and accountability,” he stressed.
Delivering his goodwill massage, former NSUK’s Prof.
Aminu Muka’ilu congratulated Prof.
Muhammad Akaro Mainoma and the university council, and other inaugural lecturers for a great moment.
Muka’ilu expressed gratitude for one of his students presenting an inaugural lecture.
He said it was a great joy for parents to witness their children representing the family positively.
Prof Muka’ilu who was promoted professor in 1995, said his inaugural lecture is yet to be presented even though Fodio was his student.
“People said I supervised you but to me I consider we supervised each other because despite you being my student, I learned a lot from you,” He told Fodio.
In a similar vein, the dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof.
Abdullahi Liman applauded the lecture, stressing that it was one among the best of its kind in the institution.
“It was well attended to and a properly delivered lecture, essentially on accounting,” Liman said.
Liman described Fodio as a man who has fear of God and respect for humanity, and called on those who are yet to present their inaugural lecture to have a wake-up call.
“Those who are yet to make theirs should do same.” He debunked insinuation from some quarters that the presentation lacked academic backbone, arguing that paper presentation is to simplify issues but not to complicate them.
He further noyed that anything that will show accountability in our society and expand the frontiers of knowledge of the people should be easy to understand.
“The more knowledge is simplified and democratised, the better for the society.” Liman lamented that the reason why corruption in Nigeria is on the high side is because people have not yet understood the dimension of fighting corruption.
“How can someone says stealing is not corruption?” he asked.
