APC aspirant defies Gaidam, opens campaign office in Damaturu

Notwithstanding that Yobe state Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam had nominated Mai Mala Buni to succeed him, an aspirant, Ibrahim Bomoi has opened a campaign office in Damaturu to challenge Buni in the contest.
While inaugurating the office along Maiduguri road, the aspirant said he was not discouraged to contest even when the governor anointed the national secretary of the party, who hails from the same zone with the incumbent governor.
“We have opened the Yobe South offices in Potiskum, Yobe East in Damaturu and we will soon inaugurate that of Yobe North in Gashua,” he said.
Usman Sale Jauro, Zone B campaign leader of Ibrahim Bomoi, lamentedthat the governor should have picked the candidate from either Zone B or C.
“Since the creation of Yobe state, all the elected governors are from Yobe East senatorial zone except the late Mamman Ali who spent only 18 months out of the 22 years the democratic governors had led,” he said.
When asked of their chances to defeat the anointed candidate who has the support of the incumbent governor and party stakeholders in the state, he said, “Only God gives power to whom He wishes.
We are confident that God will allow us to prevail.” Gaidam has said the state will hold primaries for all the elective positions based on the indirect method adopted in the state.
“People aspiring for the gubernatorial position or any other positions are not foreclosed to obtain forms, including the Senate seat I was nominated for.
Because, they have the right to do so, just as we have the right not to elect them,’ he said.
