APC blames commotion at Bauchi gov’ship tribunal on ‘PDP thugs’

Bauchi state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the commotion that took place at the premises of the governorship election petition tribunal in Bauchi during its last sitting Tuesday.

Our correspondent reports that some youth believed to be supporters of the two parties clashed when the state Governor Bala Mohammed went to the court to open his defence in the petition filed by the former Governor Mohammed Abubakar against his victory which compelled police men to use tear gas to disperse the rampaging youth.

State Public Relations Officer of the APC, Adamu Jalla, who condemned the incident in a statement issued to journalists alleged that the culprits were hired by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“The attention of Bauchi state chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) was drawn to the unfortunate incident of Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at the premises of the Bauchi state Gubernatorial Election Petition Tribunal which was master-minded and caused by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hired miscreants in the presence of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed who was present at the scene of the unruly behavior targeted at members of the tribunal.

“APC, as a law abiding party that believes in the tenets of rule of law and discipline, wishes to condemn the unruly behavior exhibited at the tribunal premises by PDP thugs and their sponsors for a hatchet plan against the rule of law”. The statement reads.

The party therefore called for the relocation of the tribunal to any other state in the country ‘ that will be more convenient and safer for the members of the tribunal for the dispensation of justice’.

“PDP and those unpatriotic elements should be reminded of the fact that no amount of criminal intimidation, threats and frustration can twist the arms of the law at any given time for any selfish interest”. He said.

But in his swift reaction via phone interview with our correspondent, the state publicity secretary of the PDP, Yayanuwa Zainabari, said there was no reason for the tribunal to relocate as “Bauchi is one of the most peaceful state in the country”.

He pointed out that even if there is insecurity in the state, it is the duty of the security agencies to recommend the relocation of the tribunal.
