APC: Buhari’s appointments can’t guarantee second term

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Enugu state chapter has warned that President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointments in the state would not enhance his political fortunes should he consider re-election in 2019.

The state party executive gave the warning in a letter addressed to the President and delivered to the APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

The letter was signed by the state party chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, secretary, Chief Robert Eze, chairman APC Enugu State Senatorial  District and Enugu State Coordinator of Buhari Support Organization, Chief Anike Nwoga, chairman APC Enugu West Senatorial District, Rev. Ikechukwu Omenkeukwu, chairman APC Orji River LGA, Chief Benson Eze, chairman APC Udenu LGA, Chief Innocent Eze and chairman APC Igboeze North LGA, Desmond Ayaogu.

Others signatories to the letter were: chairman APC Enugu North LGA, Sunday Eshiokwu, Chairman APC Awgu LGA, Comrade Henry Ume, chairman APC Udi LGA, Jude Anyadibe, chairman APC Enugu South LGA, Comrade Kevin Ezeoha, chairman APC Enugu East LGA, Prince Mike Onyeka, chairman APC Ezeagu LGA, Tobechukwu Nzekwe, chairman APC Nkanu West LGA, Hon. Sunday Eze, chairman APC Nkanu East LGA, Hon. Chidi Mbonu, chairman APC Aninri LGA, Comrade Emeka Moses Eze, chairman APC Nsuka LGA, Hon. Joseph Ugwoke, chairman APC Igboetiti LGA, Best Aroh, chairman APC Uzo-Uwani LGA, Chief Aloy Okafor, Acting chairmanAPC Igboeze South LGA, Uba Ona and Chairman APC Isi-Uzo LGA, Comrade Titus    Nnamani.

The letter specifically kicked against the appointment of Ms. Loretta Aniagolu as a Board member of FERMA.

According to the state party executive, Ms. Aniagolu is a Peoples Democratic Party member who worked assiduously against the victory of APC in Enugu State in the 2015 general elections.

They said, “Ms. Loretta Aniagolu did not labour in our Vineyard neither did she support activities of APC in any way. It is doubtful whether she will help in building our great party in the eve of election year.

“For as a former governorship aspirant and PDP financier, Ms. Loretta Aniagolu made sure that Buhari scored 148 votes in her ward (Eke), while Goodluck Jonathan was allotted 1154 votes at the collation centre where she was in charge with her litany of policemen. Apart from that, Ms. Aniagolu was among those who vehemently opposed our great party at a time when it was not fashionable to openly proclaim membership of APC.”

Alleging that she is a cousin of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Geoffrey Onyeama and that they are from the same political ward (Eke) in Udi LGA, the state party executive said, “our fear is that if her appointment is allowed to stand, it means  that five of the major political appointments so far given to indigenes of Enugu State are domiciled in one LGA and two wards.

“The concentration of all major political appointments in two wards and one LGA will destroy our chance to make meaningful impact in the forthcoming general elections.”

They gave the breakdown of the appointments as follow: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Geoffrey Onyeama, Eke Ward, Udi LGA; Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Osita Okechukwu, Eke Ward, Udi LGA; SSA to the President, Ms. Juliet Ibekaku, Egede/Umoka Ward, Udi LGA; Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Joseph Ilo, Egede/Umoka Ward, Udi LGA; Member FERMA Board, Ms. Loretta Aniagolu, Eke Ward, Udi LGA; and Member FERMA Board, Engr. Chi Uzo, Amokwe Ward, Udi LGA.

Similarly, the party executive further stated that Udi LGA has 20 wards and two state constituencies (Udi North and Udi South) but all the appointments made are from Udi North constituency.

The state party chairman, who briefed the press in company of the State Party Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Kate Ofoegbu and Buhari Support Organization Coordinator in Enugu State, Chief Anike Nwoga stated that APC national chairman condemned the lopsided appointments and promised to take their letter and case to the President.
