APC chieftain condemns impeachment move against Imo deputy governor

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo state, Hon Joseph Ekwueme, has condemned moves to unseat the state’s Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, describing the impeachment process as unconstitutional and unjustifiable.
The Imo State House of Assembly had on Monday, commenced impeachment process of Prince Madumere, alleging negligence and abandonment of duty.
Ekwueme in a press statement yesterday in Abuja, alleged that there were series of manipulation of the process to achieve the selfish desire of the state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
He stated that members of the Imo State House of Assembly, who are loyal to Madumere, were unjustly suspended by the Speaker of the House, Rt.
Hon.
Acho Ihim, over frivolous allegations just to prepare the grounds for the deputy governor’s impeachment.
Ekwueme, who hailed the deputy governor for his steadfastness and principle for not selling his conscience and mortgaging the interest of the state, further noted that that it was unjust to sacrifice democratic principles and the Rule of Law on the altar of executive impunity by going ahead with the impeachment process.
He called on the civil society, the media and the judiciary to rise against the executive recklessness, according to him, “Prince Eze Madumere is an administrator per excellence who does not joke with his duties especially his constitutional responsibilities.
As such he never absconded from office during the period so claimed.
“He is constitutionally saddled with the responsibilities of overseeing Boundary Commission.
A duty he has carried out diligently.
Considering the period under review People of Umuoma of Ihitte-Uboma local government, Ihube of Okigwe local government among others can testify of the deputy governor’s efforts in crises resolution with particular reference to incidents of April 11, and 16, 2018.
