APC congress: It’s a shame Gov Abubakar didn’t take part –Tukur

Honourable Muhammad Aminu Tukur, an aspirant for the senatorial seat in Bauchi left vacant following the death of former Senator Ali Wakili, has lambasted Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar for not taking part in the May ward, local and state congresses organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to elect party executives.
The aspirant, who also applauded the sudden resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Nuhu Gidado, said the government of Governor Abubakar has neither fulfilled its campaign promises to the people nor effected any tangible change in infrastructural development in the state despite being more than three years on the saddle.
Speaking on the controversies surrounding the May ward, local and state congresses allegedly conducted in the state, the aspirant asked: “Can you tell me where you saw Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar participating in the congress in his electoral ward? “Can you tell me if you have any clip that the governor attended an APC congress of his ward like Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa, Mohamed Ganduje in Kano, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna States respectively, and all others did? We saw them actively participating in the congresses at their respective wards.
Where did Governor M.A Abubakar do his congress? “It goes to tell you that everything was written in the Government House and those that were supposed to be arbiters or umpires of the process, who come from Abuja, were paid off and they decided to do the bidding of the government.
Nobody can dispute that”, he observed.
Tukur then expressed delight that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which is saddled by the provision of the constitution to be a witness to the whole process, did not witnessed any election conducted and has accordingly written to confirm that there was no congress in Bauchi state.
“INEC does not recognise any congress that was conducted in Bauchi state.
During the very day the ward congress was held, there wasn’t any place where you witnessed people gathered to conduct the party congresses.
Let me cite an example; the President went to his home town in Daura, the congresses were held there in the presence of everybody.
Most of the governors of the APC did the same thing”.
Further, he said though President Muhammadu Buhari remains popular and accepted by the people of Bauchi State, it would be a huge mistake if the APC eventually fields Governor Abubakar to re-contest the forthcoming 2019 governorship election.
“I wouldn’t want to generalise the issue but obviously the President has all it takes to get the entire votes of the citizens of Bauchi state but believe me, any imposition on the people of the state will definitely be challenged.
If the APC is to fill in the present governor in the forth coming 2019 general election then the party will be history in the state”.
