APC convention: Hajia Salamatu joins women leadership race

In preparations for the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the first aspirant for the position of women leader, Hajia Salamatu Umar-Eluma, has obtained her nomination forms, promising to provide all inclusive and pro-active leadership for Nigerian women.

Hajia Salamatu also promised to institute a Think-tank of women to brainstorm and throw up ideas/solutions on issues affecting the Nigerian women.

Addressing newsmen after submitting her nomination forms yesterday in Abuja, Hajia Salamatu, who was accompanied with both leadership of APC in Kogi state at all levels, said her past experiences and her capacity to deliver have prepared her fir the job.

“I intend to bring fresh and dynamic ideas to the administrative structures and office of the National Women Leader. I will also introduce innovative programmes to address issues of women mobilisation, inclusion, empowerment, participation, enlightenment on gender-rights and protection.

“Create a women in media platform to track issues and developments relating to womenfolk in Nigeria in order to be pro-active in keying into crucial trends.”

While urging womenfolk and delegates to the convention to buy into her aspiration, Salamatu, who is said to be a philanthropist, assured that she will be in active opposition to violence against women in all its manifestations.

“I will advocate women reproductive rights. Organise education, enlightenment and empowerment fora for the intellectual and economic enablement of qomen in Nigeria.

“I will influence legislation in favour of women rights and empowerment at states and national levels. And actively mobilized every form of support for female candidates of our party aspiring for elective positions,” she promised.
