APC govs demand accountability, party’s NEC meeting

Serving governors on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may have fallen away from the leadership of the party even as they are asking for proper accountability of materials and other activities of the party under Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the National Chairman.

The Progressives Governors Forum, Friday sent a five man delegation of APC governors, led by its chairman and Kebbi state governor, Atiku Bagudu, to deliver its message, Friday held a closed door meeting with Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee (NWC) at the national Secretariat, Abuja.

The meeting which lasted about two and half hours saw all the participants looking angry while both the governors and members of the NWC refused to speak with the newsmen waiting to hear the outcome of the secret meeting.

Director General of the APC Governors Forum, Lukman Rilwan, had recently sent a letter to Oshiomhole, accusing him of ‘killing the party.’

But a source closed to a meeting of the APC governors forum held on Thursday’s night in Abuja told our correspondent that the forum had agreed to send a five man delegation to ask the National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole to account for the money generated during the party’s primary before the general elections.

The source said “some of the governors at the Thursday meeting also complained that the NWC had refuse to call for statutory meetings since after the general elections.

“The governors want the NWC to account for the monies generated and also explain why some steps were taken contrary to what they believe should have been. The governors were disturbed that several crisis have not been resolved under the current NWC while many others are springing up at all levels,” the source revealed.

Before the newsmen were asked to leave the conference hall, the venue of the meeting, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, briefed his guests how his leadership has gone with the APC.

The national chairman said: “It is quite a challenging experience for me. I try to compare myself as a governor and now as chairman of a party. And, coming in at the eve of primaries and dealing with fall out of the previous congresses. And then proceeding to conduct elections. Then conduct primaries and campaigns across the 36 states and the FCT. And, working hard to ensure that we secure as many votes we can for our president, as well as support our states particularly where we didn’t have state governors to ensure that we are able to lend a helping hand. And, I am happy to say that at the end of the day even though we lost some states we also gained some states.

”We gained Kwara, which for us is extremely important. And, we also gained Gombe state which is also very strategic among others. Of course, we have a clear majority in the National Assembly. We have more senators elected on our platform. We also have more of House representatives elected on our platform.  As it stands, there are many cases in court. And until those cases are resolved, we won’t be able to say for sure where we stand. It is our prayer. Because we believed that a lot of our cases in court have merit.  We hope that there will be justice and they are resolve in our favour, ” Oshiomhole stated.

In his own, Chairman of the APC governors forum, Bagudu confirmed that some issues were deliberated at the forum’s meeting on Thursday and it was decided that a delegation be sent to the national chairman.

He said: “We are very proud that we have a President who insisted that we should not sacrifice due process for convenience at a time when it was difficult for many of us to contemplate the party going through national convention and primaries almost at the same time, Mr. President courageously said we have to do it because that is what we promised Nigerians.

“One of the most important signature between our party and other party and we are glad, so we are happy to cooperate with the NWC to whatever we can do to strengthen the party.”
