APC gov’ship aspirant backs Buhari over LG’s autonomy

A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi state, Maj Gen. Patrick Ademu Akpa (Rtd) has thrown his weight behind financial autonomy for local governments in the country.

The federal government through Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit has outlawed the meddling of state governments in the allocations of local government in the country through the states’ joint local government accounts.

The chieftain of the ruling APC vowed to work with council chairmen in the state to build a greater Kogi state if elected as governor in November.

The retired Maj Gen. Akpa in a statement from his media office to commemorate June 12 as Democracy Day, Tuesday in Abuna, praised President Muhammdu Buhari for recognising the day while urging Nigerians to live in unity.

The statement, which was signed by Pastor John Desmond, added that the election of the retired Major General will liberate Kogi from poverty, backwardness and other vices.

“On this significant democracy day, we have to congratulate our local governments for finally gaining the much desired but overdue financial autonomy as a true third tier of government.”

He lauded President Muhamadu Buhari for his magnanimous goodwill in approving this autonomy and promised to support the leadership of the twenty one (21) LGAs in Kogi state to ensure the success and smooth running of their respective councils for the betterment of our people in local governments areas in delivering the dividends of democracy.

“The task of ensuring adequate security, economic well-being and prosperity of all Kogites is a definite priority, and we will not rest on our oars until we make that happen in the Kogi State of our dreams,” he said.
