The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) Northwest zone has lauded the gale of defections by opposition party chieftains into the ruling party, describing it as a testament of APC’s impending victory in the forthcoming polls.
The Spokesperson, North West APC PCC, Muhammad Shehu Molash said in a statement in Kaduna that the Zonal Coordinator, Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state and his deputy, Malam Salihu Lukman received with utmost joy and excitement the news of spate of defections to the party across the zone.
“Few days ago, the APC gubernatorial candidate in Kaduna state received over 12,000 defectors, which include a former commissioner and some youth leaders in the local government. In the same fashion, the APC have been receiving decampees in various local governments across the state. The recent being that of the member representing Kachia Constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, who decamped to the APC from PDP along with his supporters.
“In Kebbi state, a former state auditor, former caretaker secretary, 15 party executives of the PDP and thousands of their supporters also decamped to the APC. They cited the various people oriented programmes put in place by the APC led administration and the party’s political stability as opposed to intra party crises in other parties, as the primary reason they left their former party to the APC. Also, in Katsina state, the former director general of the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate in 2019 alongside other political heavyweights and thousands of their supporters decamped to our great party.
“In Zamfara state, thousands of opposition members are daily trooping into the APC, due to the weakness of the opposition in the state, as well as Governor Bello Matawalle’s dispute settlement mechanism, which placed every major stakeholder on the same page with him in the state. Within the last three months, several high profile politicians and their followers were also received into the APC family in Kano state. The decampees, include the member representing Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s constituency, at the Kano State House of Assembly.
“In Sokoto state, the people there have obviously realized their mistake in voting the PDP in 2019, as they have been trooping back into the APC recently. Hardly a day passes without the leader of the APC in the state, Senator Aliyu Wammako, receiving high profile decampees to the party. These highly valued politicians include the legendary Umarun Kwabo, the state PDP’s financial secretary, as well as a serving commissioner in Governor Aminu Tambuwal’s administration.
“The mother of all decamping took place in Jigawa state, where our presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu received the entire structure of the Labour Party into the APC. These structures, include the gubernatorial candidate, his deputy and all the State House of Assembly candidates in the state.
“These developments in the Northwest geopolitical zone, is a testament to the fact that the Zone still remains the traditional stronghold of the APC in Nigeria and it raises hope for Asiwaju’s presidency come February 25th, God’s willing. It is gratifying to note that with few days to the polls, the Northwest appreciate our party’s vision and mission for Nigerians. The gale of defections to the APC has reinforced the party’s strength and outreach within the zone,” Molash added.
