The just concluded Lagos state All Progressives Party local government primaries held Saturday across the state has continued to generate mixed emotions among party faithful.
The announcement of Hon. Femi Okeowo as the candidate of the party in Ifelodun LCDA for the local government elections, have equally drew the ire of party faithful and concerned residents in the LCDA.
Weeks leading to the party primaries, it was alleged that Hon.Okeowo had openly boasted that he is the choice candidate of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu in Ifelodun LCDA, which was strongly rebutted by the party leadership, only for him to be announced as the party’s choice despite placing fourth at the election.
According to some APC leaders, the emergence of Femi Okeowo and Lateef Ojora as his vice-chairmanship candidate has the potentials to tear down the party, particularly, in Ifelodun LCDA.
They accused the state leadership of the party for subverting the laid down regulations which demanded that every candidate must take part in the party’s primaries.
A concerned APC member, Elder Kayode Solomon said, “We are disappointed with the shambolic and disorganized primaries held across the state, particularly, in Ifelodun LCDA.
” How did Lagos state APC arrived at the decision to pick Hon. Okeowo as the chairmanship candidate?,” he asked rhetorically. ” That’s a man that placed fourth and had fewer votes.”
” The party leadership got it totally wrong by adopting 66-year-old Hon. Okeowo and 59 years old Lateef Ojora, as the chairman and vice- chairman respectively. Truly, we believe in the supremacy of the party, however, we say no to imposition of candidates in Ifelodun LCDA. And it could negatively affect the fortunes of our great party,” he noted.
