APC members protest, demand sack of nPDP members

Members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) under the aegis of Vanguard for the Protection of Democracy in Nigeria (VPDN) have asked President Muhammadu Buhari and the national leadership of the party to expel the Abubakar Baraje-led new Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) members from the APC.

Led by their leaders, Sharon Faliya Cham and Zara Gift Onyinye, the protesters Thursday in Abuja submitted a written petition in which they asked the APC to “please sanction and sack them now from the party, because the enemy within is always difficult to fight than the one outside. We say no to pardoning of crimes committed”.

They said with the way the nPDP members have been “mounting unnecessary pressure on the government, causing disaffection in the party, just goes to show that they are all out to bring mischief and bad blood among the teeming loyal party members”.

“In view of the above, we wish to remind the party leadership that keeping these people in the party portends a lot of danger not only to the party, but to our hard earned nascent democracy. We therefore wish to categorically call on the party to sanction them because a leopard can never change its skin. We are calling for a stiff sanction because most of the grievances that they are advancing cannot be established and justified.

“They are holding the position of number three and number four persons in the government (Senate President and Speaker, House of Representatives), all the strategic committees in both houses are given to them as chairmen. Ninety percent of board appointments from their states are their nominees. Worst of all, they even connive with the old PDP to produce the Deputy President of the Senate.

“Please, note that the position of Senate President and Speaker comes with the express privilege of employing at least 200 people as their aides respectively.

“Mr Chairman sir, you can see from the above, the new PDP members’ motive is not to find a lasting solution to the intra-party crisis of APC but to cause more problem, thereby bringing unnecessary hiccups to the smooth running of government by our President, Muhammadu Buhari, because 2019 is around the corner”, they concluded.
