APC, PDP in bloody clash

Heavy gun shots Thursday night rocked Twon Brass, the headquarters of Brass Local Government Council Area of Bayelsa State as two persons were badly Injured.  It was gathered that the clash was between supporters of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the area.
The clash, which was reported to be between loyalists of the member representing Brass Constituency  of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Isreal  Sonny Igoli (APC) and the newly  appointed Caretaker Chairman, Victor Isaiah (PDP) began at about 7.30pm.
Each side freely engaged dangerous weapons including guns and cutlasses. The clash was provoked by the decision of the Local Government Council authorities to declare curfew in the council area and also declared as illegal the gathering of persons in the council on the excuse of insecurity.
The action of the Local Council authority however did not go down well with the supporters of the APC, who perceived the decision as a deliberate attempt to frustrate the planned Christian Praise and worship carnival being organised and sponsored by Hon. Sunny-Igoli.
Some other APC supporters claimed the action of the newly inaugurated Caretakers Committee in Brass was a deliberate attempts to whittle down the power and influence of the APC and the Former Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva in Brass.
An eyewitness at Twon-Brass on Thursday claimed that the arrival of the Council Chairman, Victor Isaiah  at the council headquarters with armed security men ‎and some alleged cultists from Odioma and other neighbouring communities led to pandemonium with heavy shooting of guns.
‎Hon. Sunny-Igoli, the only APC elected House of Assembly member in Bayelsa, described the incident as an attempt by the Local Government Chairman to use the PDP factor to intimidate the people of the area.
Hon. Sunny-Igoli and the Caretaker Chairman, Victor Isiah were however reported to be in a meeting with the State Commissioner of Police, Asuquo Amba.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the State Police Command, Asimin Butswat‎, said the State Police Command has deployed a detachment of armed Mobile Policemen to the area to control anger and restore law and order.
Butswat also confirmed that an emergency meeting between Hon. Sunny-Igoli and Hon. Victor Isiah was summoned  by the Police Commissioner, Asuquo Amba.
According to Butswat, ” the meeting was fruitful and all parties agreed to go and discuss with their supporters in Brass LGA. The Police Command has also deployed a detachment of armed Mobile Policemen to the area.”
