Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state was yesterday issued with APC’s first membership card in the state, an act a national executive of the party said was to re-affirm his position as leader of the party in the state.
The governor was registered at 1:00pm at the Government House polling unit.
Blueprint gathered that the exercise began yesterday in the state as against Wednesday due to special security arrangements being finalised to make the exercise hitch-free.
Chairman, Supervisory Registration Committee of the APC in the state, Alhaji Gambo Magaji, in his remarks, said: “Governor Shettima was the first to be registered considering his position as the leader of the party.”
He said the governor was issued a membership card with reference number 13061001 in the presence of the interim deputy national chairman of the APC, Aminu Bello Masari, interim chairman in Borno, Sen. Kaka Malam Yale, 2011 governorship candidate of the defunct ACN, Engr. Ibrahim Ali, alongside other national and state leaders of the party, as well as top government officials.
Shettima urged party loyalists to come out enmasse and participate in the registration exercise.
Responding to questions from journalists shortly after he was registered, Shettima said he felt elated to be registered as a bonafide member of the APC describing his registration as “a joy and something worthy of celebration.”
National Supervisory Membership Registration Committee Chairman in-charge of Borno state, Alhaji Gambo Magaji, said with Shettima’s registration, the exercise had properly began across the state.
