APC South-south leaders refuse to withdraw court cases inspite Buhari’s directive

In spite of President Muhammadu Buhari’s intervention in the leadership crisis that recently rocked the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), some leaders in the South-south are yet to withdrawn their court cases against each other.

President Buhari at the recent emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting had directed that all members of the party should withdraw all the court cases, while some leaders have compliled others are still dragging foot.

For example, former national chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole had last week withdrawn his case at the Supreme Court challenging his suspension by his ward which was earlier upheld by the Appeal Court.

Checks by our Correspondent Sunday in Abuja, however revealed that some members and zonal leaders, especially in the South-south are still in Court against each other.

Blueprint gathered that as at 24 June, 2020 in the Federal High Court of Nigeria in the Calabar Judicial Division a suit with file no: FHC/CA/CS/52/2020 was filed by one Mr Ushie Eneji and Mrs Euginia Takon against the sacked acting national chairman of APC,  Hilliard Ntufam Etta, the APC, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Inspector General of Police.

The case according to sources is seeking an order of perpetual injunction restraining Etta from parading himself either as the national vice chairman from South-south zone or as acting national chairman or as a holder of any office of the second defendant, until his suspension from the membership of the second defendant by his ward is lifted.

One of the sources said the case is billed for hearing this week Tuesday in Calabar.

Meanwhile, the State Executive Committee of the APC, Cross River State has disclosed that Etta was not suspended by the party.

The executives said that for purpose clarification, the said letter does not emanate from the party either is there any plan whatsoever to suspend the aforementioned party leader.

The statement signed by the state publicity secretary, Bassey Ita and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Sunday, dissociated the state executive from the said letter or publication.

When contacted, the party’s deputy national publicity secretary, Yekini Nabena, said he has earlier issued a statement urging all party members at all levels to comply with the NEC decision that all cases in court be withdrawn for peace to reign in APC.
