PDP had alleged that the President Muhammadu Buhari-APC administration was planning to arrest at least 50 of its members before end of December on fantom charges of corruption.
Addressing newsmen at the national secretariat of the APC on Thursday, the National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi said that the opposition party was only raising alarm to preempt arrests of some its former governors already indicted of corruption.
Abdullahi urged the main opposition party to stop politicizing the effort to purge the country of corrupt individuals, adding APC is not in the business of arresting people but that of winning souls and election.
“I don’t know who is raising these allegations, you should ask the person to show you a list of the people – you see, it’s a time worn strategy, you pre-empt. Some couple of former governors are being invited by the EFCC for questioning on their financial, one way to pre-empt all that is to say that there is a list, a way to muscle the opposition.
“We here, our business is that of winning election, we are political party and wining souls to the party. We don’t arrest people. We are a political party, we don’t arrest people, so if anybody has issues with people who have the people with the power of arresting or investigation, they should go and deal with it. They shouldn’t politicise it.” he said .
Speaking on the recently presented 2018 budget, APC spokesman said: “We are very happy also that they have promised speedily review of the budget and the passage as soon as possible.”
He said that what excited the party most was that the kind of rancour and acrimony that attended the previous budget given the relationship between the legislature and the executive is not going to happen again.
“The relationship has been mended. We are now confident as a party that the two arms of government will work smoothly and closely going forward. We are happy that we are going to start the next year in a more harmonious and coordinated manner,” he said.
