APC Vice Chairman counters El-Rufai’s report on onshore/offshore oil dichotomy

National Vice Chairman, South South Zone of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Ntufam Hilliard Eta has said that the federal government will not resuscitate the rested issue of onshore /offshore oil dichotomy in the ongoing scrutiny and consideration of the report on Restructuring as submitted by the Mallam Nasir El – Rufai led committee recently.
Eta in a statement signed Tuesday in Abuja, by his Media Aide, Bassey Ita, and made available to newsmen said the federal government will not resurrect the issue ”for obvious reasons.”
This, he said is coming on heels of renewed agitations in some quarters that the issue of onshore /offshore oil dichotomy be considered along with others in the restructuring report.
But the South South APC chieftain declared that the issue has been affirmed by previous governments and therefore cannot be whipped up.
“I have been in touch with the Presidency on this and I have had the assurance of Mr. President that the issue of the political settlement of the onshore/offshore oil dichotomy can only be reaffirmed by this government. So the idea of resurrecting it now does not arise.”
He reiterated government’s assurance to impact the lives of oil bearing communities whom he said have suffered neglect and untold hardship arising from exploration activities in the area.
