APC wins Jigawa bye election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Musa Muhammad  Fagen-Gawo of Bubara/Garki federal constituency, has been declared winner of last Saturday’s bye election in Jigawa state.

The declaration was made Sunday morning at Bubara local government collation centre by returning officer, Ahmad Kaugama.

The official declared that Mr Fagen-Gawo of APC polled 48,318 votes to defeat his main challenger, Nasiru Dantiye of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 24,135 votes.

Also, in the election, Bashir Umar of Action Democratic Party (ADP) came third with 458 votes.

The winner, Musa Fagen-Gawo of the APC is a biological son of the deceased lawmaker, Muhammad Adamu-Gawo, who recently died in a Dubai hospital.

The state governor, Muhammad Badaru, has been accused of imposing Mr Fagen-Gawo on the electorate whose only political pedigree is being the son of late lawmaker.

APC chieftains in Jigawa allegedly campaigned for Mr Fagen-Gawo while he traveled abroad for undisclosed reasons. The late Mr Fagen-Gawo senior was a political ally to the governor.

Many political pundits in Jigawa state have blamed the governor for anointing the small boy who has no experience   to represent the   constituency, describing the manner of which the governor denied experience politicians to contest for the position to selfish motive.

All efforts to know the reaction of the governor through his spokesman was unsuccessful.
