APC wins Nasarawa/Toto bye-election

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Arc. Ja’afaru Mohammed-Ibrahim of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of Nasarawa/Toto federal constituency bye-election with a total of 55,981 votes.
Announcing the result yesterday in Nasarawa, Nasarawa local government area of the state, Dr Wilfred Uji, of the Federal University, Lafia, who is the Constituency Returning Officer, said  the election has been concluded peacefully.

He explained that a total number of 202,338 voters were registered for the election out of which 87, 602 were accredited and the total vote cast was 86, 805 and have 85, 728 valid votes with the rejected votes stand at 1, 077.
Uji, who explained that four political parties participated at the bye-election and scored the following votes APC scored 55, 981 votes, PDP scored 17, 475 votes, APGA 12, 227 votes and Labour party (LP) got 45 votes, respectively.

“By the power conferred on me by the INEC, and Arch. Ja’afaru Mohammed-Ibrahim of the All Progressives Congress (APC) having satisfied the requirements of the law and who scored the highest total votes of 55, 981 is here by declared the winner to defeat.
“Hon. Musa Ahmed-Mohammed of PDP scored 17, 475, Dr. Joseph Ogbere-Osu of APGA scored 12,227 and Alhaji Zakari Maikasuwa of Labour party (LP) got 45 votes, respectively.”

Blueprint gathered that APGA, LP returning agents for the election signed the election result sheets except the PDP which boycotted the re-run following a press conference by its state chairman, Mr. Francis Orogu, on the allegation that (INEC) had compromised its credibility by not allowing the use of card readers.
