APC young stakeholders forum urges Lawan to reverse appointment of personal aides

A forum of Youth Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called  on the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan to as a matter of urgency  reversed the appointment his personal aides announced on Tuesday.

The young politicians’ forum believe that the names announced so far “are those of known antagonists of the present government and acerbic critics of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Addressing a press conference on Thursday in Abuja, the angry young men and women requested the Senate President to “kindly reverse immediately these appointments and make adjustments that would further endear him to the multitude of young party faithful who see promise in his leadership.

“It is our belief that the Senate President would not betray the huge faith we all have in his strong will to take unifying actions that would strengthen the APC as a progressive platform capable of sustaining the progress of our country.”

Speaking on behalf of the forum, it’s publicity secretary, Abu Andrew, “No doubt, the appointments are glaring reward for people who have not only insulted the person of President Muhammadu Buhari but also severally maligned the integrity of the office he occupies.

“Even for supporting Senator Lawan to be Senate President, these new appointees   did not spare the President. Now that Senator Lawan has achieved his ambition, it’s disheartening to see that the very people he puts forward as beneficiaries of his new position are those who condemned and vilified those who supported him to attain the position in the first place.

“The appointments made by Senate President Lawan,so far have made every rational youth of APC who championed the campaign for Ahmed Lawal Senate Presidency to question their choice. When the Senate President we all supported with our hearts and worked for wholeheartedly begins to compensate enemies of the government, those of the party and indeed those of the same President Buhari who endured insults for backing Senator Lawan for Senate President position; then the devil himself must be celebrated for doing a good job in turning a Senate President we brought in against us so soon and so fast.

“We may never know all the reasons behind the inexplicable appointments made by Senate President Lawan. However, we do know that every minute since the announcement of those appointments, many frontline party leaders and a large number of young people in the party have kept asking if Senator Ali Ndume was right afterall for insisting that he was better than Senator Lawan as Senate President. No doubt, the actions of Senate President Lawan, especially regarding the appointments he has made so far, bear the telltale sign of a betrayal.

“Over the last few hours, a discussion has reemerged among young people in the party on what we can do to end the tradition of “monkey dey work, baboon dey chop” which the Senate President seems to prefer. And it’s encouraging that the youth of the party have rose up to the challenge by quickly raising the red flags to indicate that the few choices made by Senator Lawan so far as Senate President are everything but popular. Already, there is an ongoing social media campaign aimed at drawing the attention of Senator Lawan to the unpopular choices he made with his appointments and how that may truncate his otherwise promising tenure as President of the ninth Senate.

“Therefore, considering the uproar generated by these appointments and the tendency to dampen the morale of members of our party, both young and old, who have worked tirelessly pre and post elections, with majority working as champions and promoters of the choices of the party for the recently concluded National Assembly leadership elections which saw to the emergence of Senator Lawan as Senate President, it’s imperative that the very discouraging appointments made so far are reviewed and amendments effected as a matter of necessity and urgency.”
