Apo: Police keep watch on scavengers

Scavengers popularly known as yanbola in Apo district of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), are currently having tough times with men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) at the Apo divisional police headquarters, following a recent directive from the FCT authorities proscribing their operations in the Federal Capital City (FCC).
Checks at the district by our reporter revealed that shortly after the police boss in the division, CSP John Emega assumed duties, he brought into force the ministerial directive, by ensuring that those violating the new law are arrested and charged to court.
Blueprint learnt that series of meetings have been held with community leaders and stakeholders in the area, resulting to the uncovering of some dark spots and other criminal hide outs incessantly used by hoodlums and criminal elements to unleash terror on the unsuspecting residents.
A senior police officer at the division told Blueprint that, despite descending heavily on the scavengers who he said have constituted a security nuisance in the community populated by mostly the working class in the society, have carried out raids on daily basis with support from the FCT command, leading to a decline in crime rate in the community
