Appeal court affirms Kumo as APC candidate in Gombe

The Jos division of the Court of Appeal has upheld the candidature of an All Progressives Congress (APC) member elect, Hon. Usman Bello Kumo, in the March 23 national assembly election.

The consensus judgment delivered by Justice Habib Abiru quashed an earlier judgment of a Gombe Federal High Court, which disqualified the appellant from contesting the election as valid candidate of the APC.

Hon. Umaru Kawuwa Barambo, had at the High Court in Gombe, in a pre-election matter arising from the APC Primary election, held on 4th November, 2018, challenged Hon. Kumo and the APC, on the ground that Kumo, joined the APC only eight months to the primaries, contrary to the party’s guidelines of at least one year .

However, Hon. Kumo, not satisfied with the High court judgment, appealed and sought for the quashing of same.

According to the appeal court, the APC have conducted primary election and submitted the name of the appellant.

The judges further ruled that the party has granted waver, screened and allowed the appellant to contests in the primaries, which gave him the validity and qualification to contest.
