Appeal Court affirms Ukachukwu as APGA Anambra South senatorial candidate

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Senatorial candidate for Anambra South zone in the coming February 16, 2019 general election, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, has won his appeal filed against the earlier verdict of an Abuja High court which had invalidated the party’s senatorial primary conducted last October.

An Abuja division of Appeal Court, on Thursday, while affirming Ukachukwu as the party’s senatorial candidate for Anambra South, ruled that the Apo High court lacked the territorial jurisdiction to entertain the matter and that it was also filed out of time.

Ukachukwu was declared as winner of the APGA senatorial primary election for the Anambra South zone which was held at the Ekwulobia Township stadium with 211 votes as against 177 votes scored by Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, while two others Dr Okey Chidolue and Chief Ikenna Mbazulike-Amechi scored two votes each, and Dr Anslem Enyimba got 1 vote.

However, Chidolue approached the Apo High Court, Abuja presided over by Hon Justice Valentine Ashi which upturned the primary poll, but declined awarding the candidature to Chidolue.

When the Motion came up for argument, the applicant respondent, Chidolue insisted he was not properly served and the matter was adjourned to allow room for the proper process service on Chidolue.

However in its verdict on Thursday, the court affirmed Ukachukwu as the duly and validly elected Anambra South Senatorial candidate for APGA.

Speaking on the development, an aide to Ukachukwu, Mr Chukwudubem Ezekwe, said the judgment was coming on a date his principal rounded off tours of the 119 electoral Wards within the senatorial zone, which he believed is a sign that he would emerge victorious at the poll.
