Appointments await Enugu assembly members who lost elections

Nine out of 24 members of  Enugu state House of Assembly that would not be returning for the 7th assembly are going to get appointment positions in government,Speaker of the house, Edward Ubosi   has said.

He dropped the hint Tuesday at the plenary after return of members from weeks of election vacation. The House sat last on January 22, 2019 before they went on recess to enable members seeking re election to campaign.

Ubosi thanked God for the peaceful elections that saw them back to the hallowed chambers adding that their colleagues who could not make it might gain appointment positions in government.

Nine members of the house could not return after the election.  They are: Chief Joseph Agbo  Ugwumba, representing Enugu east rural; Dame Nkechi Omeje Ogbu, Nsukka west, Obinna Ogbe, Enugu south urban; Mr Dons Uzogbado, Deputy Speaker and member representing Oji River, Mr John Kevin Ukuta, Uzo-Uwani, Mr Johnbull Nwagu, Udi North, Mr Nelson Uduji, Awgu South, Chief Matthias Ekweremadu, Awgu north; and George Nnamani, Enugu north.

The Speaker stated that those who were not re elected should not lose hope because there could be a position out there in the government for them.

“I want to thank God for seeing us through the elections.  I want to congratulate our great party, PDP and our leader, Dr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

“I want to thank Governor Ugwuanyi for making it so easy for us.  The victory is for all of us, even for those who are not coming back.

“Those of them who could not make it may find some other things.  There could be other positions for them in government,” Ubosi said.

Speaking in like manner, the leader of the house, Ikechukwu Ezeugwu said colleagues who were not re elected would be appointed into positions in government.

“I thank God for having brought us this far.  I thank the speaker for providing the enabling environment that brought us this far.

“Those who are not coming back for the 7th assembly are coming back to government,” Ezeugwu hinted.
