African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) in collaboration with the African Union Development Agency (AUDA), and New Partnership African Development (NEPAD) have tasked the political stakeholders in the north central to be accountable, and address challenges faced by people on daily basis in the region.
Chief Executives Officer AUDA -NEPAD Mrs. Gloria Akobundu made the call during stakeholders’ town hall meeting on Thursday, in Lafia the Nasarawa state capital.
She explained that the main objectives of the interactive was to engage stakeholders on experience sharing and reinforcement of successful and best practices through constructive dialogue.
“Our recommendations include efforts should be made to make our political system to be accountable, efficient, with an effective public service delivery to address challenges the people face on daily basis, particularly, security of lives and properties,” Gloria said.
She further tasked political stakeholders to promote accelerated broad-based sustainable socio-economic development that would encourage broad-based participation in development to alleviate poverty, inequality and unemployment in the country.
“Stakeholders strongly recommended that the economic policies of government should be focused to create employment for the teeming population of unemployed youths while also urging government to redouble efforts in the fight against corruption and other vices,” she said.
Gloria said as part of the process in addressing insecurity and unemployment in the country, a total of 2,800 Questionnaires were distributed at 400 per state and the FCT, while 2,721 were retrieved, representing 97 per cent retrieval rate.
In his remarked Nasarawa state governor Abdullahi Sule, thanked the CEO of AUDA-NEPAD Nigeria, Mrs. Gloria Akobundu for the tremendous effort she has put into the process,pledging to give his full support where nongovernmental actors would be carried along in the process.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, said his administration would review the process which is aimed at entrenching good governance, transparency, accountability, integrity, respect for human-rights and the promotion of the rule-of-law.
