Architecture not for lazy people – ARCON president

The Architect Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON), has  registered about 250 new members into the profession, president of the council Ar Oladipo Ajayi made the declaration Wednesday in Abuja.

Speaking during the induction of new members into the profession in Abuja , he tasked the new members on strict adherence to the ethics of the profession.

 The ARCON president also urged the new inductees to think outside the box to excel in the profession, adding that architect is not for lazy people. 

Ajayi  called on the young architects not to substitute character for anything, indicating that wealth creation is necessary but good relationship and character with client is required to succeed in the profession.

He further advised government to scale up the profession by equipping Nigerian universities and polytechnics with necessary equipment, such as computers to ensure that students study under a good learning environment in line with the best practices.

Speaking earlier, the registrar of the council, Umar Murnai, stated that the induction of additional new architects into the profession has brought the number of registered architects in the country to about 5,000.

Murnai noted that the number is still before the required number of architects the country needs, adding that what Nigeria needs at the moment is about 20,000 qualified and registered architects.

He stated  that most cases of collapsed buildings in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the nation at large are caused by non members of ARCON, adding that the Architects Project Verification Registration Number (APRN) was meant to check the activities of quacks in the profession.
