In one of the efforts to curb flood attack in Abaji area council, the authority of the council launched a sensitisation and enlightenment programme at the weekend.
Flagging off the programme, the chairman of the council, Hon Yahaya Garba Gawu, said it had became imminent in view of recent cases of flood in some parts of the country.

He said the programme would educate residents on flood and how to avoid it.
He said: “I wish to urge you as residents of Abaji that we have to be cautious of recent flood cases that have displaced hundreds of people; therefore I want to challenge you all not to build around riverine areas.
“Always desist from the habit dumping refuse in drainages. Similarly, our farms must not be too close to riverside.”
Amongst them were traditional rulers, farmers and youth across the 10 political wards of the council.
